The first real decision in Chalkidiki is not the hotel. It is how you arrive and how much driving flexibility the trip actually needs. Most first-time visitors should read the region from Thessaloniki outward, not from the beach inward.
For most trips the practical entry point is Thessaloniki, then a transfer or rental car toward the peninsula that matches the stay. Chalkidiki only becomes easy when the arrival day is planned around that split.
If the plan includes beach variation, base flexibility or any real comparison between Kassandra and Sithonia, driving removes the biggest source of friction from the trip.
Kassandra, Sithonia and the Athos-side gateway should not be treated as interchangeable afterthoughts. The road shape, mileage and stay rhythm begin to differ as soon as the motorway part ends.
Arrival day is usually better used for reaching the right base cleanly and understanding the peninsula logic than for forcing a full beach program immediately.
